In December 2008 and January 2009 Gaza, Palestine was invaded.   As the world watched in horror, many people across the globe felt they had to act and do something to urge the violence to stop.  This activity included demonstrations, letters to politicians, and the gathering of aid to send to the war stricken zone.

On 15 January, many of the Follow The Women members were joined in Reading town centre by women from all backgrounds and religions for a peaceful candlelit vigil.  Over 100 women attended and heard poems for Gaza written by children, and a list of the names of many of those who had been killed were read out.  This vigil showed the great desire for peace and captured the interest of the press.
